The Green Cities Europe Award focuses on projects that maximize the positive impact of plants on urban climates, biodiversity, and social cohesion.

1st Place: Belgium – "The Green Connector," Antwerp

The winning project from Belgium impressed the jury with its holistic solution for a highly densified urban zone. "The Green Connector" transforms former grey infrastructure into a green lung that acts as a natural filter for air pollutants while significantly boosting local biodiversity. Thanks to intelligent water management, the area is also well-prepared for heavy rain events.

2nd Place: France – "L’Îlot Vert," Lyon

Silver went to France for a project aimed at revitalizing a neglected neighborhood. "L’Îlot Vert" combines vertical greening with generous, shade-providing tree plantings to noticeably reduce the urban heat island effect. The jury particularly praised the involvement of local residents in the design process.

3rd Place: Poland – "Forest in the City," Krakow

Poland took third place with the project "Forest in the City". Here, a near-natural forest ecosystem was recreated in the city center, serving not only as a recreational space but also providing valuable habitat for native species. The project impressively demonstrates how urban forestry can contribute to carbon sequestration in metropolises.

Greenery as the Key to the City of the Future "This year's winners clearly demonstrate that greenery is not a 'nice-to-have' but an indispensable infrastructure for livable cities," stated the jury. The award underscores the growing importance of the green industry in addressing climate impacts across Europe.
