In a world that is changing ever faster, companies from all sectors are facing enormous challenges - and at the same time unique opportunities. Climate change, resource scarcity and social transformation not only require a rethink, but also innovative solutions. The circular economy offers exactly that: a future-proof economic system that combines sustainability and economic success.
The gardening and landscaping sector is particularly in focus here. As a designer of living spaces at the interface between nature and urban infrastructure, it offers enormous opportunities to make cities future-proof and liveable. Green roofs, sponge cities and blue-green infrastructures are just a few examples of how landscaping can actively contribute to climate adaptation and resource conservation.
Four renowned experts will shed light on the circular economy from different perspectives in their presentations. The focus will be on the following questions: What opportunities and innovations arise from the circular economy for the landscaping industry? How can urban living spaces be transformed through green roofs and other sustainable solutions? How can companies use the potential of the circular economy to innovatively occupy markets?
After a welcoming address by Josef Mennigmann, president of VGL NRW, the following presentations are on the program:
- Circular economy - opportunities through biomass and recyclates, Aloys Oechtering, managing director of REMONDIS SmartRec GmbH
- New times, new climate requirements - what contribution can the landscaping sector make? Martin Belz, senior expert at CityArc
- Circular Valley, Carsten Gerhardt, physicist, consultant and founder of the Wuppertal Bewegung e.V.
- Cradle to Cradle as an innovation opportunity for gardening and landscaping, Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart, sustainability pioneer and developer of the Cradle to Cradle concept
