"Everyone agreed that we need large trees for cities," said Markus Guhl, Managing Director of the Association of German Nurseries. Handling is now easy and small trees in large planting pits is not the point. The event highlighted current experiences in the production, implementation and maintenance of trees in our municipalities from three different perspectives.

Three different perspectives

The first speaker provided an interesting insight into new ranges of climate trees. Achim von Falkenhayn from Bad Zwischenahn explained from a tree nursery perspective what needs to be considered when planting. Peter Küsters from Neuss, member and ambassador of Bundesverband GebäudeGrün e.V. (BuGG) and owner of Grün.Stadt.Klima / Greenpass, also spoke about the importance of large trees for temperature equalization and ventilation in cities. He also presented strategies on how trees can be integrated into urban planning as effectively as possible.

Sustainable, climate-friendly urban development

The conclusion of the event was that in view of the challenges that the climate crisis poses for the quality of life in cities, large trees in particular play a decisive role for urban greenery. After the presentations, possibilities for cooperation and networking with regard to sustainable, climate-effective urban development were discussed. The event was moderated by Philipp Sattler, Managing Director of the "Die Grüne Stadt" foundation.
