+ + + Carpooling, Flix bus, Flix train
The train drivers' union GDL has announced a nationwide strike in passenger transport at short notice from Wednesday, 24 January, 2 am to Monday, 29 January, 6 pm. For all IPM visitors who wanted to travel by train, the strike could not be more inconvenient.

It would be a shame to stay at home in resignation - after all, the IPM only takes place once a year. And in the green industry, we are not known for simply letting adverse circumstances slow us down! So what can we do?
Travelling together!
For good reason, many people are reluctant to get into their cars alone and take on the hardships of a long journey. But how many vehicles are only lightly occupied! Why not ask your colleagues if they have a carpool for you? Good entertainment is then automatically provided. And since you will be travelling by car anyway - perhaps you can offer free seats to colleagues from your region, perhaps even via Facebook & Co?
Sometimes there are also jointly organised trips from our professional associations. If in doubt, ask your regional association whether they organise trips or know of any joint trips organised by others.
Use rail alternatives
When the train goes on strike, the long-distance bus providers are happy. Flix-Bus is probably the best known. The Flix-Train service is also not affected by the strike, with trains also travelling to Essen. Of course, seats are quickly booked out during a rail strike - but maybe you'll be lucky? Why don't you check online?
Car-sharing portals such as BlaBlaCar are particularly useful if you have travelled to Essen by train, are staying for several days and are now looking for a return journey. If you have travelled to Essen by train, you may be able to find people at IPM who are there by car and would be happy to give you a lift.
