Innovative plants

Since 2008, prizes have been awarded for the best plant innovations in eight different categories. The most attractive plant from the ranges of flowering and green houseplants, spring bloomers, bedding and balcony plants, cut flowers, perennials, shrubs, potted plants and balcony fruit and vegetables will be named "IPM Novelty 2024" before the trade fair opens. The term "novelty" refers, among other things, to newly bred plants as well as new, previously unidentified wild and growth forms that have not yet been exhibited at any other German trade fair.

Exhibitors could submit their novelties

The exhibited plants are judged by an expert jury before the opening of the world's leading trade fair. Last year, for example, "Blazing Saddles" won the prize for Pot Plant Novelty 2023. The jury explained its decision as follows: "This plant fulfills all current requirements for a climate-resistant plant. It is heat-resistant, tolerates bright sunlight and hardly needs any water". But effective CO2 absorption can also be rewarded, as in the example of "Street Pillar", the latest IPM novelty in the woody plants category. The innovative new plant was described by the jury as "one of the few Central European climate heroes".
