Reuse of historical irrigation art
The "Olla S Wepot" project, produced in the protected workshops of La Cordée, won the Best Practice Award 2024 in the "Sustainability" category, drawing on ancient irrigation techniques. Ollas are considered a historical irrigation system that uses jugs made of porous clay to supply the plant with water deep in the soil and thus prevent weed growth through surface irrigation. The exact origin of ollas is difficult to determine, but their use is historically important in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The olla is characterized by the fact that it waters the plant roots according to the plant's needs thanks to the natural porosity of the clay. The winners of the Best Practice Award promise water savings of up to 70 percent.
